“Why Biafra Is A Spirit”~Joe Manuels

A human right activist and ardent follower of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,  popularly called JOE MANUEL C. EZE has outline some of the reasons behind the idea of consistency in Biafra agitation.

Eze who often describe himself as a PHILOSOPHER and HISTORIAN made this public via his Facebook page in an opinion article entitled “THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF BIAFRA”.

According to him, despite the genocide which the Nigerian Government carried out against Biafrans in 1967/70 the spirit of Biafra remained undetered. Raed from him below:

THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF BIAFRA

Biafra as country had existed for very many years ago before the creation of Nigeria. It is a country with very many nations who had lived together in ages without any war of conquest. Despite their language and cultural differences, they saw themselves as one people tracable to the same origin. They are the first group of people to practice a genuine democracy via confederal system of governance. They had no prominent leader or traditional ruler who peside over matters; rather, power and authority was completely decentralized. Every man was a king to his family, nobody can make an effective decision or command in another man’s family affairs. Their mode of legislation was based on the resolution from different ethnic nationalities or clan. Every decision made without the general acceptance from each ethnicity in the public hearing remains ineffective. Their government was completely acephalous; no man to lord it over another. God in heaven was their utmost controller.

Given the fact that the Europeans overpowered Africa and made them their sujects; Biafra was not left out. The reason why Biafra did not emerge as an independent nation was that the Europeans (Britain) their colonial masters failed to offer partition or organize a referendum for every nationality to decide where to belong. Rather, they merged different regions with different culture, language, religion and ideology in one country. (Nigeria/Cameroon are some of the victims of this illegal amalgamation in Africa). The Europeans clearly did this to instigate war/hostility amongst nations in Africa, so that if they embark on massive exploitation of natural resource found in Africa, nations will rise against one another in a full force seeking for self-determination.

7years after the flag independence of Nigeria in 1960, Dim. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the army commander of the old Eastern Region(Biafra) in Nigeria, knowing fully well that his counter parts in other regions in Nigeria can not work in conformity with the aim of his region, Disclared ‘Biafra’ as an independent state on May 30th 1967 after Gen. Yakub Gowon the military head of state of Nigeria rejected the agreement he made with him in Aburi Accord for confederation (regional government). Though, the declaration was not made due his personal decision; he consulted the Core-Igbo elders as well as the elders in the coastal region. This declaration led to the Biafra/Nigeria civil war which caused the death of over 6million Biafrans mainly the IGBOS through starvation.

40years after the war, the spirit of Biafra was still unrestrained; Chief Raphael Uwazurike established the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra(MASSOB) for the continuation of the Biafra struggle. This was preceded by the emergence of The Indegineous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu a man of honour and dignity. Kanu’s led-IPOB gained ground in all across the length and breath of Biafra land due to his massive enlightenment via Radio Biafra on the need to restore Biafra as an independent state.

Since 2015, after Mohammadu Buhari, a Fulani Muslim from the North took over power in Nigeria, IPOB members have been extrajudicially killed in different occasions by Nigerian government through their joint security forces: Mkpor (Massacre), National High School Aba (Massacre), Trump Rally in Igweocha(Masscre), Operation Python Dance 1,2,3 following…(Masscre) down to the Operation Massacre Biafrans that was launch earlier last year 2021 which is still on going till this very moment.

All these killings led to the establishment of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the leader of IPOB, to reduce the level of killings in Biafran territory by the team of Nigerian Security Operatives. Despite all these massive arrests, unabated kilings, suppression and subjugation; the Biafra spirit remains irrepressible. May God Bless Biafra!”
