The European parliament has on Thursday called for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB. Speaking through their parliamentary convention, the union noted that Nigerian government is bridging their internal constitution which guarantees everyone the right to hold opinion, express it without intimidation from the security agency.
The union also demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Kanu. Also, they stated that Biafrans at large should be treated as freedom fighters not like terrorists stating that justice should be done to them. According to the statement passed during the convention, it says:
“The constitution section 34 states that every individual is entitled to freedom of expression including the right time hold opinions, criticise government and passed information without interference from the security agency.
“We therefore, call upon the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari to uphold this constitution to ensure the immediate and safety release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra.
“The Nigerian constitution guarantees the freedom of speech, including the right to protest without intimidation. This right should also be extended to the Biafran people”
The speaker ended by calling all the members of the union to join hand to press down for the release of Nnamdi
